Nittany Beagle Rescue - Benji

UPDATED 4/3/2025 Hi! My name is Benji! I'm a super friendly 7-year old male beagle. I'm a very loving guy! I love to hang out on the sofa with my people! I also love to go for long walks! I was crated a lot in my former home, & so I don't like the crate now. If I have to be confined, then it's better to baby gate me in the kitchen. I've lived with young children & I love to play with them! However, I'm pretty energetic & I can be too much for a young child. When I came into Nittany Beagle Rescue, I drank excessively. But Nittany Beagle Rescue took me to the vet, & it looks like I might have diabetes insipidus - that's the one where I'm thirsty all the time & I drink lots of water; it's probably hormonal. It's treated by taking a pill (or eye drops) called desmopressin. I've been on the pills for a couple of months & they really help! I drink more than a typical beagle, but not as much as I used to. I do need access to water at all times though. Desmopressin can be expensive, but if you use Good Rx or go to a pharmacy with a good discount program, the cost is very reasonable. (Nittany Beagle Rescue filled my prescription at the Weis Pharmacy & it is about $50 a month.) It's possible I might need fewer pills even! I'm housetrained, but I do need to go outside several times a day. Most nights I need to go outside in the middle of the night - sometimes multiple times. Because of that, I really need a home with a fenced in yard & a doggie door. I'm already neutered & up-to-date on vaccines. I'm on the chubby side & could use a diet.
